Dr. Zakaria began his medical studies at the University of Otago (New Zealand) where he graduated in 1997 with an MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). From 1998 Dr. Zakaria then trained at various medical institutions; as a Medical Officer at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Kuala Lumpur Hospital and the University of Malaya Medical Centre. He then completed his medical education with a Master of Internal Medicine (MMed) at the University Malaya (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) in 2006.
In 2006 Dr. Zakaria took up the position of Internal Medicine Specialist at Serdang Hospital (Malaysia) and from 2007-9 he was Clinical Haematologist at Ampang Hospital. He then went on to complete his clinical fellowships. The first in Haemotology at the Ampang Hospital (Malaysia) and the second in Bone Marrow Transplant at the University of Calgary (Alberta, Canada) in 2010. From 2010-15 he was Consultant Haematologist and Bone Marrow Transplant Physician at Ampang Hospital (Malaysia).
Dr. Zakaria has published numerous articles on Haematology as well as presentations and lectures on Bone Marrow Transplantation and is also actively involved in research on drug trials for Lymphoma and Stem Cells.
