Dr Murugu Sundara Pandiyan completed his MBBS in general surgery from the renowned Christian Medical College in Vellore, India where he also completed his postgraduate training. He then completed his M.Ch in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences, Trivandrum.
In 2006 his fellowship training took him overseas to Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, Australia for 2 years where he became Chief Resident of Cardiothoracic Surgical Services.

Dr Murugu Sundara Pandiyan has contributed to many published articles on Cardiothoracic and Cardiovascular surgery. In 2006 he hosted an international conference on ‘Heart Failure: Comprehensive Management’ at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai.
