Dr Tan Yew Seng is the Senior Consultant Palliative Medicine Physician at OncoCare Cancer Centre. Before this, Dr Tan worked as Medical Director of Assisi Hospice from 2006 followed on by Senior Consultant at Bright Vision Hospital from 2014. Dr Tan is accredited in Palliative Medicine and Family Medicine subspecialties.
Dr Tan teaches Family Medicine, Palliative Medicine, hospice and end-of-life care to doctors, medical students, nurses, physical therapists, art therapists, social workers, counsellors and volunteers. He was also an examiner for the Graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine and Family Medicine, Master of Medicine in Family Medicine, and the Palliative Medicine Advance Specialty Training Exit Examinations.
Dr Tan’s special interest is in supporting patients, families and care staff who are facing the challenges of life-threatening diseases and the end of life. For Dr Tan’s work with these patients, families and caregivers, he has been awarded the Healthcare Humanity Award (2010). He’s also an alumnus of the Metta Institute End-of-Life Care Practitioner Program in San Francisco (USA), which trains professionals in the care of the dying.
Dr Tan has also been involved with a variety of national workgroups and committees on opiate dependence and abuse, mental health and dementia; on clinical practice guidelines for epilepsy, dementia, and benzodiazepines; as well as in health feedback and health policy study workgroups.
